Examples of Success

Closing the Achievement and Opportunity Gaps

Napa/Solano/Contra Costa Educational Support Team’s DAIT and Program Improvement districts, and SAIT and HPSGP schools improved API scores, and began to close the achievement and opportunity gaps as well. For example, during the SAIT implementation process at Anderson Elementary in Dixon, white students had an overall increase of 22 points in their API scores, while Hispanic students had an overall increase of 87 points. At Colusa High, white students had an overall increase of 87 points in their API scores while Hispanic students had an overall increase of 106 points.

During the SAIT implementation process at Kimball Elementary in Antioch, white students had an overall increase of 73 points in their API scores, and Hispanic students had an overall increase of 105 points and actually exceeded the subgroup score for white students for two consecutive years (764 to 762). In the Sequoia Unified High School District, where a wide achievement gap has been the rule, program improvement work with the district led to an overall increase in the API scores of white students of 61 points (and reaching the state-wide goal of 800 points), while Hispanic students had an overall increase of 104 points.
